it's interesting that we see that taste all around us in nyc.
I just wrote up a little review of Nikki Giovanni's new book of poetry a few days ago. I really love her.
An artist isn't great because he or she has the best art agent or has work featured prominently in the best of galleries or because "art lovers" (meaning people who can afford to pay whopping prices to own great work) hide it away in their homes. Art is a language for the masses that allows imagination to speak and that teaches the viewer a new kind of vocabulary, one that fulfills the need we all have to be heard in some way. We ALL deserve the chance to appreciate it on our own terms and to learn how the art community values (or devalues) an artist's expression.

That seems to imply though, that were we to somehow expose ourselves to an abundance of art, so much as to ourselves be considered "cultivated," that we could then no longer appreciate said art..

as i've grown & visited my share of museums which house "certified" art - i've learned that most cultures create "living" art, which is used for daily activities.i've come to develop the belief that anything an individual purposefully creates is art (from "the basics" of creating a meal on upwards). The "simple" act of creating cultivates who that individual is and the taste that they have...
just my humble opinion. i appreciate your perspective - u help me see things in ways i wouldn't otherwise.
I love the quote. Wish more people lived by this. :-)
