The relationship dance.

I LOVE to dance: Hip Hop, salsa, merengue, the electric slide, the bump, you name it, I will give it a shot! But, the relationship dance...well, I feel as if I have two left feet when I get on that "dance floor".

When I came into womanhood, I was blessed. My first boyfriend followed me home from school (this was pre-stalker age:-) and he was the love of my life for a good two years during my junior and senior years in high school. There was a magic that I couldn't put a finger on, and back then I didn't care what it was I just couldn't get enough of it! He and I were each other's "end all and be all". During our second year together he began to seem too serious to me. He was a cutie, smart, a quarterback at an all boy Catholic school and I did love him to no end, but I don't recall him going to dances or doing other social events very often. Our time was primarily spent alone away from our friends, at movies, dinner and each other's homes. We both had siblings, so we weren't home alone, too much;-).

Maybe he was ahead of his time and I was just a silly teenage girl. I was flattered by his attention and the nice places that he took me, but I felt awkward and often frustrated by our isolation. As we went off to separate colleges I told him that we should not burden each other with long distance commitment. If what we had was strong, and was meant to be we would come back together. Twenty or so years and several relationships later - that first love I experienced will always hold a special place in my heart. We even tried to get back together as adults, but we have grown into very different people.

After experiencing several missteps, some bumps and bruises as I attempt to understand the choreography, I have decided to sit out and watch other dancers. My hope is that I will successfully learn the steps, so the next time I get into the rhythm, the love-dance will last always and forever! Hot cha cha!!!!

Butterfly....me

If you look closely at the photo you can see butterflies. If you look closely at me, you will see a butterfly who has come out of her cocoon, too.

Thank you to all of the Beautiful Brothers who have loved me. Some of you I know and some have loved me from afar, nevertheless, all of your energies have made me into the loving, passionate Woman that I am today. Note: Please do not mistake my passionate to mean the overt sexuality that has become a profitable, Internet past-time.

As I listen to other women, and read or listen to the relationship "experts" I wonder - how did I come to love Black men as I do? Now, don't let me mislead you into thinking that I'm presently in the ideal relationship as written by my favorite romance novelist B. Jenkins (U like that plug, Mrs. B? ;-). Not yet, anyway...soon, I believe I will be in a wonderful, loving and ideal for me relationship;-). I do have my share of concerns with trusting and committing to another human being. But, I'll get to that later.

Right now, I must send out a universal THANK You, to the beautiful Black Men who I have had the great fortune of crossing paths with. Regardless, of my "shoes", I ab-so-lute-ly ADORE Black men!

The hour is now late and I must get a bit of beauty rest;-).
