The relationship dance.

I LOVE to dance: Hip Hop, salsa, merengue, the electric slide, the bump, you name it, I will give it a shot! But, the relationship dance...well, I feel as if I have two left feet when I get on that "dance floor".

When I came into womanhood, I was blessed. My first boyfriend followed me home from school (this was pre-stalker age:-) and he was the love of my life for a good two years during my junior and senior years in high school. There was a magic that I couldn't put a finger on, and back then I didn't care what it was I just couldn't get enough of it! He and I were each other's "end all and be all". During our second year together he began to seem too serious to me. He was a cutie, smart, a quarterback at an all boy Catholic school and I did love him to no end, but I don't recall him going to dances or doing other social events very often. Our time was primarily spent alone away from our friends, at movies, dinner and each other's homes. We both had siblings, so we weren't home alone, too much;-).

Maybe he was ahead of his time and I was just a silly teenage girl. I was flattered by his attention and the nice places that he took me, but I felt awkward and often frustrated by our isolation. As we went off to separate colleges I told him that we should not burden each other with long distance commitment. If what we had was strong, and was meant to be we would come back together. Twenty or so years and several relationships later - that first love I experienced will always hold a special place in my heart. We even tried to get back together as adults, but we have grown into very different people.

After experiencing several missteps, some bumps and bruises as I attempt to understand the choreography, I have decided to sit out and watch other dancers. My hope is that I will successfully learn the steps, so the next time I get into the rhythm, the love-dance will last always and forever! Hot cha cha!!!!

I don't know that sitting out works for everyone, but I hope that you get what you deserve. My self-imposed isolation after the divorce only served to set me up for the selfish needs of the women who later crossed my path-- my learning and healing came from the beautiful souls with whom I've connected since I left that separationist mindset aside. You already know the secret to love and happiness with someone else like a science: Be and love yourself, and the world can't help but love you back. You've always been able to draw people and expose the hidden kindness within them that they would normally reserve only for loved ones-- me, for instance. I don't worry that you'll miss the love you desire. I know that it is closer than you may perceive. You just have to continue your quest for now-- the quest to know YOU-- and enjoy your life so much that he (lucky dude) will recognize you-- his love-- without a problem. Love can be that easy; we both have the memory of our first loves and still carry some of that love. Our hearts keep hope because we remember real love. Enjoy your life, beauty. Love is right around the corner.

Cap, we've discussed this on a previous blog, so I'm not going to really get into this. All I can do is give my new motto to my outlook on relationships (which is prominently displayed on my myspace page)..."There's only one hapiness in life...Love & Be Loved". When your time comes, your gonna tear that dance floor up!

MizRep - when I am blessed with matrimony we're gonna do the electric slide, the robot, the bump, the harlem shake, the chicken noodle soup and any OTHER dance I can figure out! LOL!
