Selfish?

Is it Selfish to Stand on Your Own Two Feet? Is it Selfish to Look out for yourself? How do you define Selfish? Are there levels of Selfishness?

Had a conversation with my Dad recently about two kinds of Selfish as we saw it:

Healthy Selfishness Vs. Infantile Selfishness

Infantile Selfishness - we called it such because the image of babies came to mind. Babies want what they want NOW. Babies don't give any regard to how it inconveniences anyone else and have no foresight as to how to provide for their own future wants.

Healthy Selfishness - when you do what is necessary to take good care of yourself FIRST. However, your self care enables you to help others around you.

We had this discussion in relation to our own lives, of course. When individuals who "need" you or something from you call you selfish with disdain because you refuse to provide for their immediate needs. How do you handle that? Where is the balance?

Thanx in advance for your feedback!

Of course someone like me is inclined to say "fuck 'em"

On the real, it depends on who called me selfish. Then I'd think about it, get all introspective, then come to the conclusion to say fuck em', they just mad cause they need something I can't help them with or won't.

im inclined to agree with MWB to a point. the reason that introspective thought is important to me is because it is for Me...

the defining of selfishness is wasted energy anyway..people are at the core capable of much evil and malice...adamic seed

Crabs in a barrell is easy for people to fall into and never get out of.

Leave those people to their miserable ideologies and surround yourself with positive people...

thats why I love reading posts by IYMS..

I say, DO YOU, FIRST!

Y'all make it sound so easy! I do tend to take care of me, first, because I'm a loner for the most part, anyway so - as MWB says, "F 'em";-). I go through the introspection, too. Sadly, I watch loved ones and kind people all around me fall victim to the "guilt" that others beat them with, often subtle guilt...

'nuff said...

cause at the end of the day, if you offer your opinions and "they" don't like it...guess what you're going to eventually say...

"refer to MWB comment"
