Wow....

Denzel did a great job portraying this character, in my opinion...but, what was it like to live the life of The Black American Gangster? Funny how the movie doesn't use Black for this Notorious Citizen - as if he were the only American Gangster....any other time...oh well...that's another discussion. Check out the clips over at Eddie Griffin's spot: GangLand Documentary.

This is just the tip of the iceburg. You must remember that these gangster drug kingpins were contemporaries with Malcolm X and the Nation of Islam, contemporaries with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the civil rights movement, contemporaries with the resurgence of the KKK and crooked cops in the South, Northeast, Chicago, California, and all points in between, headed by an out-of-control FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, and later contemporaries of the Black Panthers. Besides this came the Student Draft Card Burning, Anti-War Protests, riots on campus, riots in the 'hood, and assassinations. (How did all this blend into together? Like a crazy mixed fruit salad... stay tune, and thanks for stopping by to visit.)

Hey girlie! To answer your question, I am not sure. I actually watch the show American Gangster and it is quite interesting. I am in awe of the intelligence a lot of those men had. I wonder if they would have taken that knowledge, insight, skill, passion and made it positive where would they be today? Would they still be as successful? Would they have made the same amount of money than they did the dishonest way? Would some of them be in prison?

Great post.

Keep in touch drop by my blog and don't be a stranger.

i haven't watch "american gangster" the movie or documentary yet. but it doesn't take much to figure out that the US gov't are the "real" gangsters in this whole mess.

only til it (the drugs, crime, killings, etc) hit the press/public does the gub'ment steps in to look like they're "saving" the day.

it seems to be that way, even when you look at the gang stories of dillinger, bonnie & clyde, ma barker, al capone, etc. the gub'ment knew what was up but "tried" to play it by the books. case in point: after all the killings and racketeering that was going on with al capone. the only way they were able to get him was via back taxes.

go figure....
